IPAYMO is a suite of disruptive products and services built on a proprietary geo-localisation platform providing enterprise solutions focused on securing and protecting personal and corporate assets. The in-house developed technologies use different localisation and timing data provided by in-space and terrestrial sources enabling the improvement of authentication processes and procedures.
The IPAYMO chain is composed of a standard mobile device such as a GNNS enabled mobile phone or tablet containing an embedded IPAYMO application that communicates with our central process-ing facility. The latter firstly asserts the authenticity of the user the associated location and the transaction requested and secondly provides this information to any interested 3rd party customer.
During the last 40 months an important portfolio of intellectual property rights was built which is partly kept as trade secrets. For other parts of our IPR legal protection was sought and several pat-ents are currently pending while others have already been granted.
Furthermore IPAYMO is uniquely positioned in the intersection of different disciplines making it even more difficult to replicate its business model. In addition to space technologies IPAYMO uses its skills, knowledge and experience in security and financial systems as well as in business processes to create a significant competitive advantage.
IPAYMO is managed through the Luxembourg company IMVIO SàRL headquartered in Luxembourg-City and the German ANTEMO GmbH from Darmstadt.
IPAYMO-GeoSecurity is the next step in our young history and the GeoSecurity project has evolved from our mobile payments and e-commerce solutions. These were the subject of the activities conducted during the incubation period at the ESA-BIC in Darmstadt.
Security solutions that use location awareness as an important component to analyse and monitor risks and weak spots in corporate networks, critical infrastructures and credit card and mobile pay-ment systems are gaining more and more traction.
IPAYMO is capitalising on its know-how and expertise in geo-localisation services by offering our game changing GeoSecurity solutions as complementary means to significantly improve measures and methods protecting the operators of such systems.
In addition to its high security features GeoSecurity offers many more benefits comprising:
• unique generic location aware solutions
• compliance to privacy and data protection legislation
• ease of use and convenience for operator and end-user
The main benefits for the IPAYMO customer are:
• complementary system not requiring the replacement of current systems
• no need to hand-over operational responsibility
• no supplier dependency, no need for long term contractual commitment
• low operational cost and no CAPEX requirement
From space to industry
IPAYMO uses data originating from different location sources including GNSS. We complement the spatial data with data from terrestrial networks such as from the GSM networks, WiFi sources but also Ground Based Augmentation Systems (GBAS).
The IPAYMO Proof-of-Concept was first presented during the Galileo Application Days held in Brus-sels in March 2010. It showed IPAYMO performance simulations using the current GPS system in combination with the future Galileo system deploying simulators provided by a major European space conglomerate. IPAYMO is capable to significantly improve localisation in urban environments, important in order to determine its capabilities in a mobile payment transaction context.
Its technology makes it possible to significantly improve location determination under difficult conditions using low cost receivers such as those used in mobile phones. Even more important IPAYMO is capable to do that in a reliable and accurate way by using easy to use consumer devices without requiring the use of special purpose appliances for mitigating the adverse effects trying to sabotage GNSS signals by spoofing, replay and other attacks.
Using the current demonstrators as a basis IPAYMO is now (December 2011) embarking on using data from multi-GNSS constellations, combining GPS and Russian GLONASS data, to improve its underlying location establishment processes with a view to improve the authentication methods used to date.
ESA Business Incubation
The 2-years IPAYMO incubation was successfully completed with an end-of-incubation review held in ESTEC in June 2011 where a panel with representatives from Luxembourg, ESA and CESAH were presented to the IPAYMO achievements and who were shown the IPAYMO live demonstrators.
During incubation IPAYMO had recourse to experts from the ESOC navigation office and others that were capable to contribute to the high level technical requirements defined in the IPAYMO Requirements Documentation.
Most of the achievements during the ESA Business Incubation were made possible thanks to the support of the Luxembourg government through the Ministry of Higher Education and Research as well as the Luxembourg Agency for Innovation (Luxinnovation). During this period seed funds were provided through the joint Luxembourg/ESA LIIS facility enabling the further development and system engineering of the IPAYMO technology.
Incubation period and location
From May 2009 to June 2011 IPAYMO was hosted at the ESA BIC in Darmstadt managed by the Cen-tre for Satellite Navigation Hessen.
